At a joint IHCF–KMI seminar in Seoul, IMI-certified mediator Pascal Comvalius stressed that Asian in-house counsel should tailor their negotiation strategies to cultural and decision-making differences between East and West, particularly by clarifying their counterparts’ authority. The event also highlighted counsel’s expanding role beyond legal advice to mediating conflicts and leading negotiations, while KMI and IMI signed an MOU to promote mediation and strengthen research, training and international exchange.

The In-House Counsel Forum (IHCF), the oldest such association in South Korea, signed a memorandum of understanding with the newly founded Korea Mediation Institute (KMI) on 2 July 2026. The KMI aims to raise awareness on the benefits of mediation and improve expertise in corporate dispute resolution.
